Welcome Letter

Dear Colleagues,

The European Glaucoma Society Executive welcomes you to join the EGS 15th Congress in Athens on the 4th to 8th June 2022.
The program of this large event has been carefully designed to provide an update on all matters regarding glaucoma management, from epidemiology and basic science to diagnosis and medical and surgical therapy.

We will be delighted to have with us a large panel of internationally renowned speakers who are recognized experts in the field, the largest group of invited Faculty compared to previous EGS meetings.
Each new EGS Congress builds on past successes: newly established standards, a varied and stimulating scientific programme and a wide range of instructional courses pitched at different levels to meet varying needs in our audience are the main features of our meetings.
An extensive array of scientific posters and a vast exhibition add to the variety of this well-established scientific gathering that has been able to attract trainees, general ophthalmologists and glaucomatologists alike.

During the pandemic EGS intensively worked on building new EGS projects of strategic importance in the field of glaucoma, namely the Real World Data Project the Surgery project, the EGS glaucoma fellowship project and the project targeting outcomes. Concepts, developments, and innovative approaches raised from these projects have fed into the program of our next meeting which will enable a high quality of scientific exchange in an open-minded, friendly, informal, multi-cultural environment, from the first day until the very last session.

In addition, we are particularly pleased to announce for the first time in the program the EGS surgery day adding one full day to the usual length of the biennial meeting. This additional surgery day will address the current and modern state of the art in surgical management of glaucoma including the many challenges of new innovative surgeries.
Therefore, this is expected to be a milestone meeting in the field of glaucoma and moreover will reestablish vital in person meeting and networking between colleagues and friends.

Athens, a marvellous open sky museum and the birthplace of Philosophy, of Science, of Democracy and of European Culture and Civilization is the ideal location to host such an important event.

EGS 2022 promises to be an unprecedentedly exciting meeting which we hope you will want to attend and enjoy to the fullest. Your active participation will make it worthwhile.
